The process of downloading the Netflix app is the same for smart TVs, home theaters, gaming consoles, and similar streaming devices. Many of them will already have Netflix when you get them, or their remote will have a Netflix button.

The Netflix app on Samsung Smart TV offers all the features that are available on smartphones. You can change your Netflix account, sign out of the account, use virtual assistants on Samsung TV to control the app, and more. You can also download the video content offline and stream them later.

That means users of iPhones, iPads and Android phones and tablets can now download and store Netflix movies and TV programmes to watch when they don't have an internet connection - such as on a plane or the Tube.

Its rival Amazon has been offering a similar service for a while, but the downloadable content is limited. Netflix seemingly has much more content to enjoy offline and promises that it will soon add more.

Both of these offer offline viewing and when you start them up will open with a dedicated "Download & Go" splashscreen. This will take you directly to a menu of all the content currently available to download, as not everything on Netflix is available to view offline for licensing issues.

If you don't go to that screen after the splashscreen or want to go there later, you will find the "Available to Download" section listed in the side menu of the app. Just tap the three lines that appear in the top-left hand corner of the main screen. You can also access your downloads and settings in this side bar, which will be important to remember.

Click on the thumbnail of the show or movie and you'll go to their individual Netflix page. If it is a movie, you will see a "Download" icon at the bottom of the film's description. Just tap on that and it will download to your device.

Unlike Amazon, which limits you to two downloads at a time, there is seemingly no limit to how many Netflix videos you can save for offline viewing. Entire seasons can be stored for viewing when travelling, for example. It is also available to all Netflix users, regardless of your subscription.

Enter the side bar menu again and scroll down to "App Settings". In here you can ensure that video downloads are restricted to when you are connected by Wi-Fi rather than mobile broadband. You can also change the video quality between "Standard" or "Higher". The higher quality setting will naturally use more data to download and require greater storage space.

The good news for Android device owners is that Netflix has now made it possible to download content to a Micro SD card. When you go to download a movie or TV show, you'll now see a prompt asking you where you want to save it to.

So that's about that. We found that multiple devices can be used to download content depending on your subscription level, including for different family profiles - great for the kids on car journeys.

Netflix currently costs 5.99 a month for standard definition video streaming to one device at a time only - which we suspect would restrict downloads to one device at a time too. For 7.49 a month, you get HD video and to two devices at a time.

I have done a firmware update on the TV from 1805 to 1904 and done a full factory reset on the TV. I will say that the firmware update gave me some sound options that I could not access before, but it didn't help with Netflix. I had to download the firmware update from Samsung's web site because the TV always said there was no update available, even though there was. I also have auto-update turned on for apps. I have searched for a way to download a new version of Netflix and do a manual install but I can't even find any information about what the latest version of the Netflix app is. The TV has Netflix 5.3.27 which was released in Nov 2021. Netflix has told me that this is a Samsung hardware or software issue.

Samsung smart TVs ship with built-in apps like Samsung TV Plus, but the Tizen OS platform lets you download thousands of apps from inexpensive streaming services to Facebook. If you're the proud new Samsung Smart TV owner, we here to help you find and download, and even remove apps from your streaming lineup.

There are a few things you'll need while planning your next trip: earplugs in case you're seated next to a toddler on an airplane; a neck pillow if you have the ability to rest on flights; and distractions from the doldrums inherent to any travel experience that doesn't go awry. For most people, those helpful items include a book or a podcast, some music or a Nintendo Switch, or maybe just a bit of work. Since you don't typically have excellent access to WiFi on a plane or train, a downloaded TV show or movie (or several) could also prove helpful.

Outside of travel, of course, there are plenty of times watching Netflix is simply easier if you have the shows or movies downloaded so you can view them offline(Opens in a new window) whenever you want. Note: You can have up to 100 downloads at a time on as many devices on your membership plan.

In order to download movies and TV shows from the Netflix app, you'll first need to download the latest version of the app. You can find it on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch running iOS 9.0 or later, on your Android phone or tablet running Android 4.4.2 or later, on your Amazon Fire tablet running Fire OS 4.0 or later, on your Windows 10 tablet or computer running Version 1607 (Anniversary Update) or later, and on select Chromebook and Chromebox models. Make sure you keep the app updated for it to work the best. To see if your app needs to be updated, navigate to your App Store and tap updates.

Once you're in the app, you'll find that not all movies or TV shows are available to download on Netflix. Some of them will not have the little down arrow download button. Netflix says this is because(Opens in a new window) content rights are exclusive to another company, the rights aren't available for Netflix to purchase, or a whole host of other reasons, like popularity, cost, availability, or seasonal and other localized factors.

If you're familiar with using Netflix on your mobile device, you've probably noticed the dark "Download" button that sits right below "Play." Clicking that button starts a download of a local version of the movie or TV show you want.

You can download Netflix movies and TV shows on iPhone, iPad, Android and Amazon Fire devices, as well as computers with Windows 10 or 11 and some Chromebooks and Chromeboxes. Netflix downloads are set by default to only use Wi-Fi, though you can change that in your app settings.

TV shows can be downloaded individually by clicking the download icon next to each episode. On Android devices, you can download an entire season of a show by tapping the separate Download Season button next to the My List, Rate and Share links near the top of a movie or show listing.

Netflix allows you to keep a maximum of 100 downloads on as many devices as are included in your subscription plan. Each of the downloads has a different expiration date based on its content license -- some expire as early as 48 hours after you first start watching. Downloads can be renewed, but some have a limit on how many times per year. If a movie or show leaves the Netflix service, all downloads for it immediately expire.

You can delete individual movies and shows by unselecting the check box next to each title. You can remove all of your downloads by going into your App Settings and clicking "Delete all downloads" under Downloads.

A "Downloads" tab (called "My Downloads" on Windows) that sits at the bottom of the Netflix app shows you which downloads are in your library and lets you play them. It also lets you customize your download settings, such as Smart Downloads.

Netflix's Smart Downloads option provides an easy way for you to manage the movies and TV shows that you've downloaded. It basically contains two download options -- Download Next Episode and Downloads for You.

When turned on, Download Next Episode will automatically delete TV show episodes once you've watched them and then download the next episode in the season. It's a no-brainer for anyone who downloads TV shows, which is probably why the feature is turned on by default in Netflix apps.

Downloads for You expands the automatic downloading and deleting options for Netflix that are used in Download Next Episode. The feature is available in the iPhone, iPad and Android versions of the Netflix app, as well as some Chromebooks and Chromeboxes.

After Downloads for You is turned on, Netflix uses your viewing habits and preferences to download movies and TV shows that the service thinks you will like. Once you watch them, they're automatically deleted.

If you don't want to watch a downloaded title, you can delete it the same way you would delete downloads that you initiated manually. You can also click the icon of a square surrounded by a broken circle to cancel downloads in progress.
